Greetings from the International Institute of Public Policy and Management (INPUMA), University of Malaya.

We would like to invite you to The Arshad Ayub Foundation Lecture Series II, entitled The Role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) towards an Innovation-Based Economy.  The speaker is Academician Tan Sri Dato’ Ir (Dr) Ahmad Zaidee Laidin FASc, Chairman, Board of Directors, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).

Please find attached the invitation card for the event.

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) has been identified in the Malaysian Education Blueprint (2015-2025) as one of the key initiatives for the nation's future.  The first trade school in Malaya was established as early as 1906.  Since then, efforts have been made by the Malayan/Malaysian government to increase the number of skilled workers through the establishment of technical colleges, polytechnics, community colleges and other technical training centers. Several attempts have been made to harmonise the multi-faceted and multi-pronged efforts by central agencies together with at least nine ministries and five national training institutions, as well as many state-based and industry-based training centres. The impact of the latest legislation on the Amendments to the Registration of Engineer's Act 2014, and the proposed creation of the Board of Technologists would have positive repercussions on the overall scenario. This lecture attempts to appraise the various efforts, and identify the new solutions and the needed follow-through actions.
